Evolutionary Predictability and Complications with Additivity

چکیده
Adaptation is a central topic in theoretical biology, of practical importance for analyzing drug resistance mutations. Several authors have used arguments based on extreme value theory in their work on adaptation. There are complications with these approaches if fitness is additive (meaning that fitness effects of mutations sum), or whenever there is more additivity than what one would expect in an uncorrelated fitness landscapes. However, the approaches have been used in published work, even in situations with substantial amounts of additivity. In particular, extreme value theory has been used in discussions on evolutionary predictability. We say that evolution is predictable if the use of a particular drug at different locations tends lead to the same resistance mutations. Evolutionary predictability depends on the probabilities of mutational trajectories. Arguments about probabilities based on extreme value theory can be misleading. Additivity may cause errors in estimates of the probabilities of some mutational

Non-linear Analysis of Stability in the Islamic Banking Industry
Stability analysis is one of the most important fields of study in the Islamic banking and finance industry. For measuring stability in Islamic banking, we introduced, for the first time, an Islamic banking stability index (IBS) during 2013 to 2016 which use all CAMEL factors and so seems to be more comprehensive than Z-score stability index which dominantly used in the existing literatures. To...
متن کاملGenetic basis of between-individual and within-individual variance of docility.
Between-individual variation in phenotypes within a population is the basis of evolution. However, evolutionary and behavioural ecologists have mainly focused on estimating between-individual variance in mean trait and neglected variation in within-individual variance, or predictability of a trait. In fact, an important assumption of mixed-effects models used to estimate between-individual vari...
متن کاملAdditivity of maps preserving Jordan $eta_{ast}$-products on $C^{*}$-algebras
Let $mathcal{A}$ and $mathcal{B}$ be two $C^{*}$-algebras such that $mathcal{B}$ is prime. In this paper, we investigate the additivity of maps $Phi$ from $mathcal{A}$ onto $mathcal{B}$ that are bijective, unital and satisfy $Phi(AP+eta PA^{*})=Phi(A)Phi(P)+eta Phi(P)Phi(A)^{*},$ for all $Ainmathcal{A}$ and $Pin{P_{1},I_{mathcal{A}}-P_{1}}$ where $P_{1}$ is a nontrivial projection in $mathcal{A...
متن کاملPopulation and quantitative genetics of regulatory networks.
I evolved boolean regulatory networks in a computer simulation. I varied mutation, recombination, the size of the network, and the number of connections per node. I measured the performance of networks and the heritability and epistasis of genetic effects. Networks of intermediate connectivity performed best. The distinction between metabolic and quantitative genetic additivity explained some o...
متن کاملTitle: Polymorphism and the Predictability of Evolution in Fisher’s Geometric Model
12 Predicting the future evolutionary state of a population is a primary goal of evolutionary 13 biology. One can differentiate between forward and backward predictability, where forward 14 predictability is the probability of the same adaptive outcome occurring in independent 15 evolutionary trials, and backward predictability is the likelihood of a particular adaptive 16 path given the knowle...
